This day course is designed to go through the process of making the highest quality digital file and photographs. We will cover the setting up of the camera, changing the menus and discussing how the various setting adjust the look of the image and how it affects the file. We will discuss the merits of using RAW or JPEG file types and how you have to expose differently for them.
We will then venture out to make some photographs and can access Clyne Gardens or walk along Swansea Bay sea front. While out on location we will go through composition, reading histograms and handling of camera equipment. After lunch we will stay in the hall and run through the processing of RAW files based on the Adobe Camera RAW processing engine found in Photoshop, Photoshop Elements and Lightroom. The demonstration will be carried out in Adobe lightroom, but the principles can easily be applied to other RAW processing programs. We will process images from participants or taken by myself on the day.
Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop computer if they have one to edit and process their images on their own equipment. It is not a problem if you don't.
Difficulty level
- Physical - Easy - this course is suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. It involves walks over predominately flat ground with a few moderate to gentle descents to the main area for photography. Some of the paths can be in places muddy, covered in stones or bare earth.
- Computer - Easy to Moderate - we will be taking a very easy step by step process through the processing of RAW images. General computer understanding required.

Where to Meet
- We will meet in the Minor Hall of Vivian Hall (go to the right of the main entrance and go around the back, follow signposts), Blackpill at 9.30am.
Vivian Hall is situated in the Blackpill area of Mumbles Road opposite the Junction Cafe.
There is a bus stop (Blackpill Lido Stop) just opposite and buses 2, 2A, 2B, 3, 3a, 14, 14A, 37 & 63 stop there.
There is some limited parking on the pavement just outside Vivian Hall and ample parking spaces in the nearby Woodman Pub/Clyne Gardens and Clyne Valley Country Park car parks.
