After an enjoyable course at the National Botanical Garden of Wales last weekend, I revisited the few images I made. I think it was about 10 in total. I noticed that even though they were taken on a nice sunny day, the harsh contrast wasn’t that appealing. I decided to switch to black and white to see what they would look like. Even harsh light looks good in black and white and in a way lends itself to it. Check out images made by Herb Ritts, where he used very directional lighting in his portraits or Jacques Henri Lartigue, who spent a lot of time photographing in the French Riviera.

Not long now till the next course on Skomer. Puffins in black and?white anyone?
