Brandy Cove, Gower Peninsula??? Brandy Cove, Gower Peninsula without polariser

I had a really productive day at Brandy Cove yesterday. Recently I have been concentrating on the learning curve that comes with new equipment and techniques required for them. It all seemed to come together yesterday with some of the best sound recording I have done so far plus some good still and video footage. I’m still a long way from getting it right but I feel much further along the learning curve now. Typically this happens after I thought I wasn’t getting anywhere and booked myself onto a sound recording course run by Wildeye.

The two images above were taken at the same time, with the only difference being that I had a polariser fully activated for the first image. You can see how this has cut down the reflections and saturated the colours more. But which is the better picture? I’m still undecided at the moment. I even think that a black and white version may be better. Yesterday was a good example of choosing a location for the weather and lighting. When I set out there was fine misty rain falling and wall to wall cloud in the sky making the light very flat. I set out thinking of black and white images or colour detail photographs. The flat lighting would not be good for landscapes, but as the light improved and the rain stopped, into the light images highlighting the wet sand became possible.

Brandy Cove has some great rock formations on both sides of the bay, with great pebbles of all sizes scattered around. The pebbles at the moment seem to have been swept up to the top of the beach and more sand was visible than I remember on my last visit, so there was less foreground interest than normal.
